Biswajit Nayak (Bhubaneswar) and Smaraki Mohanty (Kendrapara) won the open and girls titles respectively in the Odisha State Junior (U-19) Chess Championship which concluded at Ispat Stadium in Rourkela today. Biswajit scored six points from seven rounds, while Smaraki secured 5.5 points from six rounds.
Utkal Ranjan Sahoo (Rourkela) and Bhaskar Sri Biswaroopanand (Puri) finished second and third respectively in the open category with six points each. In the girls category, the second and third positions were claimed by Puri duo Aparajita Gochhikar (5.5) and Sagnik Pratihari (4.5) respectively, while Tanuja Sahoo (4.5).
The three-day championship was hosted by Rourkela Steel Plant, under the aegis of All Orissa Chess Association. Top four finishers in each category qualified to represent Odisha in the Junior National Championship, which is scheduled to be held in Rajasthan from September 2 to 11.
